Real-Life Use Case
Eliminate Unwanted Voice Traffic
Education
This is a real-life Use Case of a Mutare Customer and provides a high-level summary of the scenario and business problems resolved with the Mutare Voice Traffic Filter solution.
The Client
World-renown university comprised of undergraduate, graduate and professional schools, state of the art facilities and expansive physical and virtual campus assets.
Problem Definition
This university was experiencing an inordinate amount of nuisance and malicious robocalls, unwanted solicitations and scam calls impacting faculty, staff and students, including threat agents spoofing University numbers to perpetrate fraud.
The Story
University IT and Security personnel were aware that the growing amount of robocalls and scam calls entering their network was not only disruptive to faculty and staff but also included voice phishing callers using spoofed university numbers. A Mutare-provided Voice Traffic Analysis running their Call Data Records through Voice Traffic Filter’s dynamic database further confirmed that their incoming voice traffic contained a large percentage of spam calls, translating to an annual productivity loss of $940,022, and an increased risk exposure due to those with malicious intent. However, at the time, the organization’s telephony carrier was limited in its capacity to integrate third party solutions. In 2022, the university issued an RFP for a new hosted telephony provider with specific requirements around the call filtering capabilities it saw with the Mutare solution, including:
- Full Administrator control over Filtering configurations
- Ability to block calls at the user level
- Recognizing/blocking calls from spoofed University numbers
- Robust reporting capabilities
The University settled on the Cisco cloud telephony solution with the inclusion of Mutare’s Voice Traffic Filter for voice security. The three-year, pre-paid deal closed in October 2023.
